    SUNY Oswego’s O-RITE Program is seeking individuals with a strong background in either Math, Science or Linguistics who are interested in making a positive impact on the lives of learners in high-need schools.

    Our Program:

    • 13-month intensive teacher preparation program offering tuition remittance and living stipend.
    • Full community immersion through intensive school-based residencies and internships at community-based organizations.
    • Learn to teach in the classroom with an experienced, helpful mentor teacher.
    • Become part of a supportive community of learners and teachers, for the duration of the program and beyond.
    • Work in high-need schools in shortage areas to help improve student learning.
    • Graduate with authentic teaching experience and initial dual certification in Students w/Disabilities 7-12 Generalist and a secondary Math/Science or TESOL discipline.
    • On-going professional development and placement support for degree recipients.

    SUNY Oswego’s O-RITE Program is seeking individuals with a strong background in either Math, Science or Linguistics who are interested in making a positive impact on the lives of learners in high-need schools.

    Eligibility Requirements

    • A Bachelor’s Degree in discipline (Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Mathematics, Physics, Linguistics or related area with significant specific coursework)
    • Successful completion of SUNY General Education Requirements (Basic Communications, Mathematics, American History, Other World Civilizations, Foreign Language, Social Sciences, Humanities, The Arts, Natural Sciences, Western Civilization)
    • Minimum 3.0 GPA
    • Passing grade on mandated New York State Teacher Certification Exams
    • US Citizen or Legal Resident

    The program will not consider applicants who have a previous degree in Education.

    Support

    • $30,000 stipend
    • $10,000 tuition remittance for degree candidates
    • Coursework and faculty support provided though an online delivery system, which will allow apprentice teachers to undertake coursework in “real time” in classrooms across the urban-rural corridor
    • One-on-one teacher mentoring
    • Ongoing professional support offered through SUNY Oswego, SUTEC, and CEI-PEA
    • O-RITE Alumni Network support
