ENTREMUNDOS

EntreMundos promotes positive social change in Guatemala by supporting and expanding the capacity of communities and non-governmental organizations, by connecting organizations with skilled international volunteers and by educating both the local and international community about social and development issues affecting Guatemala.

Local Activities EntreMundos is based in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala and was founded in 2001. The organization has three main branches of work:

• Volunteering: We place skilled volunteers with around a 100 Guatemalan NGOs and local community projects that deal with a wide range of development-related issues, from women to the environment, from agriculture to micro-credit. We do this through three services: 1) an online database with listings of around a 100 volunteer work opportunities, 2) a one-to-one personalized placement service for a cost of 25Q, and 3) a pre-departure, full placement service for $50.

Additionally, we run a select number of Internships for individuals with specific skills and experiences, as well as Community Service-Learning Trips for groups of 5 volunteers or more. For more information on these services, contact volunteering@entremundos.org.

• Human Rights and Development Magazine: EntreMundos publishes a free 32-page bilingual magazine, with a 2000-copy national distribution every 2 months, which includes articles relevant to social and development themes in Guatemala and Central America. The magazine also offers a space for organizations seeking volunteers.

• Training and Organizational Support: EntreMundos offers a comprehensive series of capacity building workshops to enable non-governmental organizations to deliver efficient and effective programs and projects to the communities they serve. These workshops deal with planning, fundraising, publicity, project management and so on. We also coordinate fundraisers and offer project implementation support to several local project partners.
