Alpha Community Services YMCA

The Central Connecticut Coast YMCA is a community service agency dedicated to addressing community needs through quality programs, as well as volunteer opportunities that enrich families, promote health and wellness, develop youth and build self-esteem for all. YMCA membership and participation is open to everyone regardless of race or ethnic background, religious preference or ability to pay.

Alpha Community Services (ALPHA) is a wholly owned subsidiary branch of the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA. Based in Bridgeport, ALPHA operates shelters, transitional, permanent supportive housing and affordable rental housing. It provides supportive services in many settings.

ALPHA became a branch of the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA in 1992 and for the past 19 years the community has come to rely on ALPHA to provide a sense of hope and a safe for homeless men, women and children. While many of the residents may not have any other support networks, ALPHA housing gave 892 individuals, including more than 400 children, a sense of community and a place to belong last year.

ALPHA is the largest provider of Permanent Supportive Housing in the State of Connecticut, as well as the largest family shelter in the state. ALPHA has been providing emergency shelter for families in the City of Bridgeport since 1992. Since that time, ALPHA has expanded its programs and services, and in addition to the initial shelter for families, it now operates transitional housing for families and supportive housing for individuals. ALPHA’s programs include 110 beds dedicated for emergency family shelter and over 400 residential units of supportive housing in the greater Bridgeport and New Haven areas. ALPHA is an active member of the Greater Bridgeport Continuum of Care.
