The Aga Khan Education Service Pakistan (AKESP) began its operations in 1946 in the Northern Areas of Pakistan, devoted to improving the access, quality and sustainability of education for all with increased gender equity and active participation of communities. Over the years, programme operations have expanded and AKESP is now running over 300 primary, middle and secondary schools in 11 different regions of the Northern Areas of Pakitsan. More than 27,000 children (over 65% of these girls) are enrolled in these schools.
