Bookmark Reading Charity

We’re a reading charity supporting children aged 5-9 with their reading. Our mission is very simple: we want every child to read.

We support roughly 150 schools in England and Wales, we work with children in Years 1-4. We also provide literacy resources and grant opportunities for schools as part of our wider mission. Our values can be viewed on our website at https://www.bookmarkreading.org/our-values

We offer both online and in person volunteering, where volunteers work 1:1 with a child to support them with their reading. Our online volunteering involves 30 minute sessions with the same child, twice a week, for six weeks. For face-to-face volunteers, ideally we’re looking for people who could support a minimum of two children a week, across 12 weeks.

We give our volunteers full training including safeguarding training once they have successfully applied to work with us. We cover the cost of an enhanced DBS check and overseas checks where applicable, to apply volunteers complete a form via our website at https://www.bookmarkreading.org/volunteer, they are then interviewed before DBS checks are started.

Volunteers can work in schools face to face with children or online via our secure online platform "Bramble" Schools publish their programmes to a secure volunteer app and they can then be booked via this app by the volunteer.
