Jumpstart- Southern California

Jumpstart is a national early education organization that recruits and trains college students and community volunteers to work with preschool children in low-income neighborhoods. Through a proven curriculum, these children develop the language and literacy skills they need to be ready for school, setting them on a path to close the achievement gap before it is too late. Jumpstart is working toward the day every child enters kindergarten prepared to succeed.

• There are nearly 1.1 million school-aged children in the Greater Los Angeles Area, but nearly half never graduate from high school.

• Children from a low-income background enter kindergarten significantly behind their peers, and testing shows that children who start behind will likely never catch up.
