About NCEE:

The National Center on Education and the Economy (NCEE) is a leader in education reform policy and practice based in Washington, DC. As a think-tank and “do-tank”, NCEE researches the world’s top-performing education systems to learn how their students perform at high levels, more efficiently, and with more equity than in the United States. NCEE uses those lessons to adapt what it learns for use in the United States at the national, state and local levels. NCEE’s work focuses on standards, assessment and instructional systems, teacher and school leadership policy and practices, education governance, management and finance, early childhood education and care, and vocational and technical education. NCEE has three major programs: The Center on International Education Benchmarking (CIEB) which analyzes the policies and practices of the top performers, identifies the common principles that underlie those strategies and describes the implementation strategies those countries have used to produce their superior performance. The National Institute for School Leadership (NISL), the nation’s leading Executive Development program for school leaders. And Excellence for All, a groundbreaking program being piloted in American high schools to insure that all students are ready for college and careers. NCEE created the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, and New Standards, a predecessor to the Common Core, and released major reports that have impacted education policy including: America’s Choice: high skills or low wages!, Tough Choices or Tough Times, Surpassing Shanghai, and Fixing Our National Accountability System.
