The Capital Clubhouse is a membership-based community where people living with mental illness and/or trauma can recover to lead personally satisfying and productive lives. Participants - who are called members, not patients, and are reflective of our area’s rich diversity - share ownership and responsibility for the success of the Clubhouse. They work in an empowering partnership with a small staff, building on their strengths rather than focusing on illness. Recovery is achieved in the Clubhouse through work and educational opportunities, and social relationships, which are proven to be restorative and provide a firm foundation for growth, dignity, and individual achievement. The Capital Clubhouse draws inspiration from and aims to adhere to the Standards of the worldwide Clubhouse movement - a SAMHSA recognized evidence-based practice.
