Water Climate Trust defends and restores aquatic ecosystems in partnership with stakeholders who depend on them for food, jobs, health, recreation, and cultural survival. To this end, we focus on improving water policy and investments through advocacy, administrative and legal procedures, stakeholder empowerment, research, education, and communications. Recognizing that excessive water diversions, groundwater pumping, and dams harm freshwater and marine ecosystems and lessen the likelihood of habitat recovery efforts, which are further hampered by climate change, WCT centers water quantity in all of our work. Habitat and species recovery for salmon, steelhead, other culturally significant fish for Native American communities (C’waam, Coptu), and the highly-endangered resident southern Orcas who rely on salmon for the vast majority of their diet, is our end-goal. Our primary programs are:
1. Water for Nature
2. Dam Alternatives
3. Shasta Waterkeeper
4. Oregon Water Justice Alliance
5. Stakeholder Empowerment
