Stroke Institute of Minnesota

The members of the governing body are a motivated group of individuals with diverse backgrounds who are interested in reducing the death and disability associated with stroke. The diverse backgrounds include previous affiliations with non-profit organizations, and familiarity with neuroscience related diseases. The governing body recognized the need for creating an infrastructure that can lead to national and international recognition and serve as the region’s largest and most advanced research infrastructure dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of research pertaining to stroke. Currently, there are only six stroke institutes highlighting the need for such an effort; 1/. UPMC Stroke Institute located in Pittsburgh, PA; 2/. Dott Peterson Stroke Institute located in Louisville, Kentucky; 3/. Neurovascular and Stroke Institute located in North Shore, Long Island; 4/. The Saint Luke’s Brain and Stroke Institute, located in Kansas City, MO; 5/. The Deane Institute for Integrated Research in Atrial Fibrillation and Stroke, located in Boston, MA; and 6/. David Braley Cardiac Vascular and Stroke Research Institute located in Hamilton, Ontario.

SIM is a non-profit, 501 (c)(3) organization registered with the State of MN and the U.S. Department of Revenue as a medical research Institute focused on stroke research incorporated in 2010.
