  • Sobre Nós

The General Theological Seminary, the first Seminary of the Episcopal Church, was founded in 1817 and has been a New York City landmark since 1826. A leading center for urban, progressive theological education in the Anglican Communion, the Seminary's primary mission is to prepare men and women for both lay and ordained ministry in the Church.

GTS offers the highest standards of academic excellence and innovation in the formation of lay and ordained graduates who are ready to serve, benefitting from the strengths of both our rich tradition and diverse programming inspired by our embrace of the 21st century.

Our educational program emphasizes the deepening of life in Christ through the integration of study, worship, service, and life in community. GTS also seeks to strengthen and extend the ministries of both laity and clergy through programs offered in continuing education and at the certificate, master's, and doctoral levels.
