Center for Addiction Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital

Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) establishes the Center for Addiction Medicine in order to improve the quality of life of adults and adolescents with substance use disorders and their families. Utilizing the assets of a major general hospital and an academic institution, the new Center integrates clinical and research efforts in sustained and strategic fashion. Patients with co-occurring substance use and mental illness are a special focus of the Center. While millions of Americans have a co-occurring substance use disorder and a psychiatric illness (e.g., alcoholism and depression), approaches for their care are not yet well developed, and effective treatment of individuals dually affected remains one of the greatest challenges in psychiatry and medicine today.
