    Food Rescue US is a nonprofit organization that engages volunteers to pick up excess food from restaurants, grocery stores, caterers, farmers markets, etc. that would otherwise be wasted and deliver it to social service organizations that feed people experiencing food insecurity. The organization has recently launched a site in Charleston, SC which is actively recruiting volunteers to transport donated food. On average, a rescue takes less than an hour and there are many rescue opportunities available on weekdays, weekends and evenings depending on volunteers’ availability.
