Choice Neighborhoods Baltimore

The Choice Neighborhoods Initiative, sponsored by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), offers competitive grants at the city level to transform distressed neighborhoods and public and assisted housing projects into viable and sustainable mixed-income neighborhoods. Choice Neighborhoods grants support the development of comprehensive neighborhood revitalization plans which focus on directing resources to address three core goals: Housing, People and Neighborhoods. Further, efforts also look to address critical subareas in the targeted planning area, including physical health, mental health, education, employment, and public safety.

Jubilee Baltimore, a non-profit community development corporation based in Baltimore City, was one of 17 recipients nationwide to receive a Choice Neighborhoods Grant in 2011. The Choice Neighborhoods Baltimore project places special emphasis on a local project-based assisted housing complex, and covers significant parts of a series of West Baltimore neighborhoods, including Bolton Hill, Druid Heights, Madison Park, Reservoir Hill, and Upton.
