    About Moving Health:

Moving Health is a 501(c)3 organization that collaborates with Ghanaian communities to create safe, accessible healthcare transportation solutions. Started out of MIT in 2016, we have grown to serve over 75,000 people in Ghana’s rural districts with locally-engineered ambulances. Our tricycle ambulances, designed in close partnership with local leaders and health workers, play a critical role in providing emergency transportation to pregnant women and others in urgent need.

In the Upper West Region of Ghana, women in labor face a long journey to the clinic—often walking for miles or riding on the back of motorcycles to give birth, risking their lives and their babies’. Lack of transportation is a leading barrier to healthcare, contributing to preventable maternal deaths, with 830 women lost daily, mostly in developing countries. Moving Health addresses this gap. In the past three years, Moving Health has launched 15 ambulances across two Ghanaian districts and reduced hospital referral time by 50%. 54% of rides support maternal health, creating greater trust among pregnant women in the health system and saving lives in complex births.

We recently saw our success celebrated in the Merck for Mothers Health Equity Award, as USAID funding recipients, and as members of MIT Solve. You can learn more at our website Moving.Health or on our Instagram where we have Impact Stories, show our ambulance construction, and celebrate our interns.
