For more than 35 years, Beyond Housing’s mission has been to strengthen neighborhoods, one family at a time. We do this by providing support services to families, children and seniors; being a catalyst for community-wide rebuilding efforts; empowering residents to be leaders of their own neighborhood revitalization efforts; and promoting individual and community asset building.
Beyond Housing, as a community development organization on the cutting edge of holistic and comprehensive community revitalization, has received national recognition for the collective impact gained through strategic visioning and collaboration building approach. In its many years of serving the St. Louis region, Beyond Housing has received many local, national and international accolades that include citations in White House Publications on effective community revitalization practices. The organizations portfolio of over 340 units of affordable rental housing provides a place to call home for lower income families with services that enable them to save and build for the future. Its Homeownership Center is the preferred source for homebuyer education by the State of Missouri to satisfy requirements for down payment and closing cost assistance and includes a Foreclosure Intervention program that has a 32% rate of helping homeowners in distress avoid foreclosure. Beyond Housing’s Community Building program, the 24:1 Initiative, which stands for 24 communities with one vision: Strong Communities, Engaged Families and Successful Children, is an innovative, place-based community development partnership convened and facilitated by Beyond Housing to address the serious challenges facing residents and communities of the 24 municipalities that comprise Normandy School District.
The 24:1is inspired by 10 years of sustained, successful work by Beyond Housing and its partners providing support and improvements in our anchor community, the City of Pagedale. The partnership includes elected officials, residents, community-based organizations, area businesses and the school district.
