About Community Research and Education in Action for True Empowerment (CREATE) Praxis

The mission of Community Research and Education in Action for True Empowerment (CREATE) Praxis is to envision and realize actionable solutions grounded in the lived experiences and local knowledge of those most impacted by environmental and health disparities. Founded in 2014, CREATE Praxis partners with community-based organizations and coalitions to center directly impacted residents in the decisions that affect their everyday lives through participatory action research and popular education approaches. These approaches focus on mobilizing participants' diverse ways of knowing - including reflecting on shared experiences, learning by doing, and imagining better futures - to create and advance collective actions to improve conditions in their communities and address root causes. CREATE Praxis is a fiscally sponsored project of Communities United for Restorative Youth Justice (CURYJ), a youth justice organization based in Oakland CA that unlocks the leadership of young people to dream beyond bars by advancing youth-led, community-driven alternatives to incarceration (www.curyj.org).
