Salary Range: $67,181.60 – 71,273.09

THE DEPARTMENT 

Our Child Care Family Services Department is invested in offering a wraparound service model that builds on individual and family strengths to help families achieve positive goals and improve well-being. We offer an array of supportive services to families, which includes child care financial assistance for children ages 0-13, help in finding high quality child care educator in San Francisco, various levels of case management, family engagement activities and caregiver workshops. 

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Developmental Playgroup Coach will facilitate parent and child play sessions, primarily for children aged birth to three years who have a mild to moderate special health care need or development delays but who do not qualify for formal early intervention

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Developmental Monitoring and Screening 

• Administer Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ-3 and ASQ-SE) to screen children before and after engaging in the playgroup series to establish baseline and monitor milestones achieved.  
• Maintain ongoing communication with developmental playgroup participating families to follow up on family plan, established goals, and milestones achieved. 
• Sensitively share screening results with each family, provide child development information and design developmentally appropriate playgroups based on ASQ findings. 
• Collect data and feedback, provide analysis and information for reports and sharing out. 

Develop & Facilitate Playgroups 

• Design fun, stimulating play content designed to address skills, developmental domains, and age groups. 
• Expand culturally responsive and reflective developmental play opportunities in our onsite Play Lab and in accessible San Francisco neighborhood community spaces. 
• Provide home-based activities, tools and resources to families and caregivers in multiple languages; may include or be in the form of digitally enabled play content organized by age group and specific skills that families can easily filter and access. 
• Obtain, maintain, and if appropriate, distribute materials and supplies during playgroup sessions to promote ongoing and sustained parent and child play at home. 
• Gather and assess ongoing observational data to support progress assessments and activity development. 
• Assist in additional Family Engagement workshops as needed. 

Partnerships 

• Coordinate family referrals from the Central Access Point (CAP) funded by San Francisco’s Department of Early Childhood (DEC) – Early Intervention & Specialized Services (EISS) System of Care and particularly in instances where a child might need more intensive support or intervention. 
• Coordinate with EISS agencies and broader Help Me Grow and Family Resource Center Initiative networks to implement and streamline referral procedures and processes for families that have children with special needs. 
• Connect to -The Lending Library to promote hands on learning with developmentally specific materials and books. Provide a warm hand off to our Resource & Referral Team for childcare and additional services as needed. 
• Collaborate with internal Communication team to connect with families and advertise playgroups using social media platforms. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

• 3 + years of experience in child development and experience administering early childhood playgroups and/or parent/child interactive groups for children with special needs. 
• Experience with child development screening tools such as the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ-3 and ASQ-SE), Individualized Education Program (IEP) & Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP). 
• Hands on coaching experience and knowledge supporting children and families in underserved and diverse communities. 
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
• Fluency working with Microsoft Office Suite, social media platforms, event management and mobile technology. 
• Ability to work evenings and some weekends. 
• A background clearance is required.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.   

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

• Mental acuity to perform the essential functions of this position timely and accurately. 
• Dexterity to use office equipment; the ability to sit and work at a desk for extended periods of time. 
• Ability to speak, hear, and understand speech at normal room levels.

All staff are required to be fully vaccinated (barring application for medical or religious exemptions). Wearing masks in the office is optional for our staff. 

Hybrid Work 

We have adopted a hybrid working model at Children’s Council. There are a few roles where the hybrid schedule is not conducive. Due to the nature of this position, it requires work in-person at the Children’s Council building five days per week from 8:30am – 4:30pm.
