    Planned Parenthood of Northern New England (PPNNE) is seeking candidates for a full time, 37.5 hours/ week, exempt, Philanthropy Officer position based in Portland, ME. This position has flexibility for a hybrid remote-onsite work schedule. The Philanthropy Officer will be responsible for securing major philanthropic investments in support of the mission and objectives of Planned Parenthood of Northern New England. The Philanthropy Officer will play a critical role in the generating support for capital and general operating needs for the organization, and serve as the primary moves manager for a portfolio of current and prospective major donors. The Philanthropy Officer will work collaboratively across all parts of the organization and develop relationships with board members and staff volunteer leadership activities and groups that aim to stimulate or increase major gift fundraising.

    Characteristic Responsibilities:

    • Secure major philanthropic investments in support of the mission and objectives of PPNNE. The Philanthropy Officer will be responsible for securing 5, 6 and 7 figure gifts from individuals, managing relationships with current and prospective donors, identifying, cultivating, and soliciting new donors and major gift prospects.
    • Manage relationships with current and prospective donors and will be expected to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward in partnership with the executive office, leadership volunteers, senior management and other staff as appropriate
    • Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle:
    • Initiate contacts with potential leadership and major gifts donors
    • Develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers
    • Move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion towards solicitation and closure
    • Make solicitations when appropriate
    • Maintain stewardship contacts with donors; adhere to the highest ethical standards; demonstrate empathetic disposition, and perseverance; reflect optimistic and positive attitude, and convey sensitivity to needs of the donors
    • Offer prospect strategy counsel to the President/CEO, Vice President and development staff who are managing other prospects. Be a resource for development staff, from identifying potential volunteer connections to knowing about meeting and event spaces in key locations
    • Record donor interactions, relationships and other relevant information in the donor database in accordance with database policies and procedures
    • Be a full participant in the major gifts team in analyzing metrics and crafting strategies to secure philanthropic gifts to the organization
    • Work with the Annual Fund staff to identify major donor prospects from the Annual Fund supporter pool
    • Approach donor strategy with the longevity of the organization as well as the donor’s immediate intent in mind, integrating planned and long-term stewardship plans as part of the solicitation process
    • Maintain donor confidentiality and abide by the Association of Fundraising Professionals code of ethics in all fundraising activities. Conform to standards of performance and conduct, including those pertaining to patient and donor rights, so that the best possible service may be provided.
    • Work collaboratively with and in support of volunteers, other development and public affairs staff, and other PPNNE representatives to cultivate and solicit donors for organization-wide priorities
    • Monitor all prospect contacts to ensure positive and purposeful prospect and donor relations
    • PPNNE Philanthropy Officers also work as fundraisers on behalf of Planned Parenthood State Action Fund and PAC in their state and will work to secure resources and support for those organizations.
    • Perform other duties as assigned
    • Utilize PPNNE’s Values as the basis for decision-making and to facilitate PPNNE’s mission

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree, 3 to 5 years successful experience in major or planned gift fundraising preferred and preferably in healthcare
    • Must be highly energetic professional with a track record of building donor relationships and closing gifts in the six-figure range
    • Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multi-functional or diverse areas
    • Successful experience in making cold calls as well as developing cultivation and solicitation strategies
    • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated record of completing assignments
    • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and fundraising software programs (The Raiser’s Edge preferred)
    • Must be willing to travel

    Compensation & Benefits :

    Compensation for this position is based on years of direct work experience. Candidates with 0-6 years of experience can expect to earn between $74,568 – $83,967/yr. As experience increases, so does the rate of pay, with candidates who have 20 or more years of direct experience earning up to $110,779.50/yr.
