Descrição

We are seeking a dynamic individual to join us as the Assistant Director, Learning and Engagement Programs at Carnegie Hall. The Assistant Director, LEP will oversee the development and implementation of three programs of the Weill Music Institute - Music Educators Workshop, Summer Music Educators Workshop, and PlayUSA – as well as partnerships in collaboration with the New York City Department of Education. With the Director of Learning & Engagement Programs, this position is responsible for the strategic vision of programming supporting teachers and teaching artists in school and community music education programs around New York City and the United States.  The Assistant Director manages a team that implements all day-to-day aspects of programming, including:  

• Program development and facilitation of Music Educators Workshop, an annual professional training program for up to 150 NYC-area music teachers. 

• Planning and implementation of an annual week-long Summer Music Educators Workshop intensive for approximately 200 music teachers from around the country. 

• Stewardship of the PlayUSA program providing programmatic support and professional development opportunities to community music education organizations from around the country, including webinars, intervisitations and training workshops.

• Leading ongoing collaboration with the NYC Department of Education’s Arts Office through professional learning days for educators, school year and summer programming for young musicians, and development of other resources and programming as needed, with an emphasis on access and equity 

• Researching, observing and interviewing potential faculty members and facilitators for all workshops, webinars and residencies.  

• Leading collaborative development of program content and curricula, including workshop materials, field-wide tools, and online resources for educators

• Management of budgets for all three programs, including drafting, reconciling, and strategizing adjustments as needed. 

• Liaising with the Carnegie Hall Development department on grant applications and reports connected to relevant program areas

• Coordinating with Educational Media and Technology colleagues to develop strategic plans for the creation and distribution of digital resources in support of all program areas. 

• Overseeing ongoing internal program assessment and any outside program evaluations as needed. 

• Managing two full-time staff members: Manager, Learning & Engagement Programs and Associate, Learning & Engagement Programs.  

• Collaborating with other WMI staff to implement a broader sharing of WMI’s work, nationally and internationally, through partnerships, technology, and conferences; 

• Serving as a representative of WMI internally and in the field; 

 

Skills & Qualifications:

• Strong background or degree in music or education required

• A minimum of 5-10 years of professional experience  

• Strong working knowledge of and/or direct experience with music classrooms and learning environments, and significant experience in and passion for curating professional development experiences for educators

• An understanding of the broader arts education and teacher training fields 

• Commitment to furthering the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of the work

• Ability to prioritize, delegate and organize workload for self and others 

• Excellent verbal, writing, editing and proofreading skills 

• Outstanding collaborative and interpersonal skills and professional demeanor 

• Creative, detail oriented, excellent organizational and management skills, and ability to self-manage, multi-task, adapt, and communicate in a fast-paced work environment 

• Team player who is reliable, dependable and enjoys being part of a highly collaborative team

• Excellent computer skills with knowledge of Tessitura and all Microsoft Office programs

• Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and 10 Saturdays a year, as well as occasional travel
