About Climate Changemakers

Climate Changemakers is a modern, non-partisan climate advocacy program equipping everyday people to advance equitable, science-based U.S. policies at every level of government through meaningful, sustained civic engagement. Our powerful resources and "Hour of Action" coworking sessions make productive climate advocacy approachable for everyone—from first-timers to seasoned advocates. Constituent advocacy is proven to move the needle on policy and elections and is an essential solution in building the political will we need to create systems-level change. Climate Changemakers was founded in 2020 as a volunteer collective and incorporated in 2021 as a nonprofit organization.

Position Description

We’re looking for an experienced organizer who is passionate about political climate action and eager to make big waves at a fast-paced, startup nonprofit. In this role, you’ll manage our growing distributed volunteer network by serving as the primary point person for volunteers and volunteer leaders, with opportunities to creatively broaden and deepen the member network. You’ll also be an integral part of our events management and support advocacy campaign development.

This dynamic role will evolve to fit the skill set of the right person and offers the opportunity to learn alongside co-founders in a startup environment and gain valuable management experience.

This is a remote position, but only candidates in the contiguous U.S. time zones will be considered.

Role Responsibilities

  • Be the principal point-person for our growing community of 8,000+ members. This includes moderating our Slack community with the help of volunteer moderators, responding to member email communications, maintaining and enforcing community guidelines, and CRM management.
  • A big part of the Climate Changemakers “special sauce” is our Hour of Action events. As the lead Organizer, you will oversee Hours of Action across our network, host virtual and in-person events, manage our volunteer leader network of virtual and in-person Hour of Action hosts, and lead event coordination for special/partnered events.
  • Support the Campaigns team in the creation and maintenance of volunteer leader recruitment, training, and onboarding systems and resources.
  • Assist in the creation of campaign resources (e.g. our step-by-step Action Playbooks or Issue Briefings), and support campaign operations, including by setting and tracking progress toward campaign engagement and outcome goals.
  • Recruit and manage skilled volunteers on a project basis to help you.
  • Execute flexibly on a dynamic scope of work that intersects with those of our staff and volunteers.

What You Bring

Specific to this position:

  • 3+ years of experience in political organizing, community engagement, client relations, or another related skill set.
  • Experience in at least two of the following areas: climate/environmental policy or initiatives, U.S. politics, issue advocacy.
  • Demonstrated strong writing skills, with the ability to distill complex information into jargon-free explainers.
  • Prior experience with a political campaign is a big plus. At minimum, demonstrated basic understanding of how the U.S. government works and the role of advocacy.
  • Experience with event planning and logistics is a plus.
  • Highly organized and self-directed.

General team member attributes:

  • Alignment with the organization’s core values
  • Comfortable meeting/working with new people and skilled at building authentic, productive working relationships.
  • A critical thinker, able to make quick decisions.
  • A process-oriented team player.
  • Excitement about joining a scrappy startup climate action non-profit.
  • Comfort working in a non-partisan environment, using politically neutral language, and leading with an inclusive, culturally-sensitive approach.

Please apply for this position if you feel called to this work, even if you are “under” or “over” qualified for the requirements listed above. We have sufficient flexibility in our hiring plans to accommodate standout organizers who are passionate about equipping everyday people to become effective climate advocates.

Benefits of Working with Us

  • Growing organization: We’re a small, fun, and supportive team with big climate advocacy goals! This new role is key to helping the organization scale, powering more high-impact climate action, and extending a growing and distributed network of community climate leaders.
  • Remote work: We are a virtual organization with staff and volunteers spread across the United States.
  • Flexibility: We’re a team that believes family, life, and health come before work. If you can hit your goals, we don’t care when you work or if you need to take an hour off in the middle of the day to take care of whatever calls to you in life. We measure results, not hours worked.
  • Autonomy: Our goal is to create an atmosphere where people can thrive and do their best work. We believe in setting ambitious goals and then trusting our team to achieve them, without micro-management or pointless meetings.
  • An inclusive culture that values diversity: We’re deeply committed to building a diverse and welcoming staff and volunteer community.
