    SADIE NASH LEADERSHIP PROJECT OVERVIEW

Sadie Nash Leadership Project (SNLP) provides award-winning experiential social justice education to more than 500 young women and gender-expansive youth of color in New York City and Newark each year. Operating with love and rigor, we use the tools of popular education to build critical consciousness, community, and college readiness. Our programs include a nationally recognized six-week summer institute, in-school and after-school classes, college access and persistence support, and an advanced-level fellowship to design and implement an original social justice project. We strengthen, empower, and equip our participants to lead lives in committed pursuit of joy and liberation for self and community.

    POSITION OVERVIEW

We are currently seeking a Faculty for Nash U, a specialized program that supports 12th grade Nashers (youth program participants) as they apply and prepare for college. This is an opportunity for them to determine their best plans after high school through building a college list, applying to college, writing a college essay, applying for scholarships/financial aid, connecting with folks who have careers they’re interested in and more. In addition to classes and advising meetings, the Nash U program involves field trips and other events designed to foster community-building, deepen learning, and nurture socio-emotional skills and overall well-being.

The Nash U Faculty will teach our Nash U class and directly support a cohort of approximately 20 SNLP participants (“Nashers”) in their college application process. The Nash U faculty leads all aspects of teaching, advising, and administrative duties within the program. Responsibilities include:

    • Co-create a safer space that values the different experiences and identities of Nashers
    • Hold one-on-one meetings with the Nashers who need individualized support
    • Collaborate with SNLP staff members on developing new workshops, planning and facilitating enrichment activities that occur outside of class time, providing additional resources to support Nasher learning and wellbeing, and connecting Nashers to external opportunities to further promote their leadership development
    • Provide supervision and support to the Dean on tasks that include (but are not limited to): a) completion of logs of receipts, attendance, and forms submitted by Nashers; b) follow-ups with Nashers regarding lateness, attendance, and important program dates; c) (if applicable) classroom setup, food orders, office/program supply orders, and miscellaneous errands
    • Engage in regular communication via email, Zoom/Google Meet, or in-person meetings with SNLP staff
    • Attend professional development training sessions
    • Ensure proper documentation of lesson plans and other curricular materials in the shared Google Drive
    • Analyze data to deepen understanding of Nasher experiences and needs for support
    • Develop final report with input from the Dean and SNLP Director of Programs and/or other SNLP staff, that contains reflections upon the 2025 year and recommendations for the next year of the program

    Eligibility:

    • BA/BS required; degree with focus on education/counseling/gender & race studies preferred
    • Knowledge and experience in college advising and counseling, preferably in schools and/or community-based youth organizations in the NYC area
    • Passion for working in the educational field and/or youth work with a focus on college access
    • Demonstrated record of leadership and achievement in academic, professional, extracurricular or volunteer settings
    • Demonstrated interest in working with young women and/or gender-expansive youth or color
    • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups in terms of ideologies, race, religion, class, sexual orientation, gender identity, nationality, and ability
    • Strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail
    • Skills and dispositions that allow them to be flexible, dynamic, responsible, mature, and detail-oriented
    • Habits of being punctual, reliable, and organized

The program begins with an in-person orientation on Thursday, October 3 from 4:30-6:30 PM. Meeting dates are as follows:

    • Weekly on Thursdays (4:30-6:30 pm, in-person) from October-December AND some Saturdays (11 AM-2 PM, in-person) in November and December
    • Monthly Meetings (11 AM-2 PM, in-person) from January - May 2025
