Calvary Women's Services is seeking a Senior Accountant to manage the organization's accounting operations. Report to the Chief of Finance and HR, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for the daily financial activities, ensuring that the department follows established policies and provides timely and accurate financial information.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Finance & Accounting
- Responsible for overseeing all aspects of our monthly closing process and generate initial financial reports for review by the Chief of Finance and HR.
- Manage the day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, and general ledger in collaboration with the Accounting and Grants Associate.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial reports in accordance with GAAP and non-profit accounting standards
- Coordinate and the annual audit preparation and provide supporting documentation, as requested to the external auditors and/or regulatory agencies
- Support the development of the annual budget process and monitor spending against budget through variance analysis.
- Maintain effective internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard the organization’s assets and ensure compliance with donor and grant requirements
Administration
- Ensure compliance with all DC regulatory offices
- Support projects related to the Board of Directors
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance preferred
- At least 7 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, preferably in a non-profit or mission-driven organization
- Strong knowledge and understanding of GAAP, non-profit accounting standards, and tax and regulatory compliance
- Experience in preparing and financial statements and reports, and leading the annual audit process
- Experience in managing budgets and forecasts, and performing financial analysis and modeling
- Experience in maintaining internal controls, policies, and procedures
- Experience in developing accounting staff, and working effectively with cross-functional teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and accounting software, such as QuickBooks or Sage as well as online accounting software solutions and payroll systems
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate complex financial information to various audiences
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and quality, and ability to meet deadlines and prioritize multiple tasks
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, and ability to think strategically and creatively
