    JOB DESCRIPTION: The Familias Unidas (FaU) Community Organizer is responsible for effectively organizing Eastside public school parents, guardians, and other residents to take action on issues of Educational Justice. The ideal candidate will have advanced organizing skills to facilitate social justice-related campaigns with experience engaging community members, developing popular education curricula for adults, facilitating and coordinating adult leadership training, and knowledge of effective base-building. 

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

    • Support parent-led campaigns specific to educational justice at the local and regional levels, including mobilizing grassroots members to directly engage with the Los Angeles Unified School District around its budget, educational equity, and related issues.  
    • Develop and implement effective outreach strategies to recruit parents, guardians, and other adult residents (i.e. school site outreach, phone banking, tabling, etc.)
    • Develop adult-friendly curriculum on political education topics and leadership development skills 
    • Represent InnerCity Struggle in relevant coalitions and delegations with elected officials 
    • Work with other InnerCity Struggle staff to coordinate campaign-related activities
    • Responsible for the leadership development and training of adult leaders with the goal of recruitment, engagement, and sustainability of an active base of adult members in Educational Justice Campaigns. 
    • Travel for InnerCity Struggle-related activities (retreats, conferences, trainings, networking)
    • Engage in civic engagement activities including, but not limited to, canvassing in the Eastside of Los Angeles
    • Other duties as identified by the Familias Unidas Coordinator and/or Director of Community Organizing

    ICS IS SEEKING A PERSON WHO MEETS THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Fluency in written and conversational English and Spanish.  
    • Strong social justice analysis
    • CA driver’s license and access to a reliable automobile are required (with at minimum, liability insurance)
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment
    • Ability to work weekends and evenings as needed or required by the Supervisor
    • Track Record of accomplishing goals and objectives individually and in a team environment
    • Experience in developing program and communication material
    • Strong and effective communication and problem-solving skills and strategies
    • Ability to work effectively with different stakeholders 
    • Ability to work in a team setting and provide/receive constructive feedback
    • Minimum 2-year commitment preferred
    • Minimum 1-2 years experience in community organizing in low-income communities of color preferred
    • Experience in translating materials and interpretation (Spanish-English) preferred
