    The Opportunity

    The Academy High School Coordinator will provide support to high-achieving students participating in The Academy, a Heights legacy program, and is responsible for implementing academic programming for students from independent, charter, and parochial schools. The High School Coordinator will oversee and plan classes and workshops for high school school students (9th - 12th grade) to prepare them academically and socially for college or career readiness.

    What You’ll Do

    • Oversee and coordinate weekday and Saturday programming from September - May. Responsibilities include:
      • Collaborating with the team to recruit students for programming
      • Communicating with students, families, and faculty regularly to provide programming changes and updates
      • Supervising and managing program faculty
      • Collecting lesson plans and reviewing lessons plans developed by Instructors
      • Co-evaluating the impact of Saturday programming to provide feedback to the Director
      • With support from Director, facilitating consistent staff meetings and reviewing faculty performance and objectives
      • Leading Saturday programming sessions in the event of Instructor's absence
      • Facilitating orientation/closing program and programmatic assemblies throughout the program year
    • Advise and support academically prepared high school and their families through the selection, application, and scholarship attainment process as they transition to collegiate or career pathways
    • Coordinate and oversee workshops, recruiter sessions, and field trip experiences that support college exposure and career readiness
    • Manage process for re-engaging disengaged students, including outreach, and documentation of communication
    • Coordinate with peers and partners to recruit participants for Heights summer programs.
    • Support Academy summer programming
    • Serve as a point of contact for opportunities offered by external partners, especially those that enrich a student's academic, college, or career readiness.
    • Collect and maintain student data in Heights’ database.
    • Performing other assigned duties that are within the area of knowledge and skills required by the role.

    What You’ll Bring

    • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
    • Minimum one year work experience
    • Experience in college and career programming with an understanding of success factors for students from low-income and first-generation college going communities
    • Passion about educational access for underserved communities
    • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people and a commitment to collaboration across the organization
    • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and evident ability to handle multiple projects

    In addition to your experience, expertise and strengths, you must meet PA State background check requirements [PA Criminal, PA Child Abuse and FBI Fingerprint Check] at hire and every five years thereafter. You’ll also need to adhere to COVID safety guidelines as required by the Department of Human Services and/or the School District of Philadelphia.

    Work Arrangements

    Heights Philadelphia currently maintains a hybrid work environment where staff work from home, in our Center City office, and on-site with school partners, as determined by the staff member's or team’s responsibilities. We also prioritize time together as an organization - living in our value of succeeding together. All office-based Heights employees spend Wednesdays in-office in Center City, building community at our monthly staff professional development days and via our virtual staff meetings.
