    Summer on the Hill

    DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR/GRANT WRITER

    PART-TIME POSITION

    Summer on the Hill is seeking someone with at least 3-5 years of experience in not-for-profit organizations to fill our Development Coordinator position. The ideal candidate will be an organized, experienced and talented grant writer with very good interpersonal skills. This is a part-time position (15-18 hours per week).     Responsibilities

    • Collaborate with the Executive Director to create short and long-term fundraising strategies.
    • Secure financial support from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
    • Maintain grant tracking database (Bloomerang) and process gifts.
    • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors.
    • Develop and track proposals and reports for all foundation, government, and corporate fundraising.
    • Manage and co-organize annual fundraising events.
    • Write and coordinate production of annual appeal (newsletter)

    Qualifications

    • BA (required), MA (a plus)
    • 3-5 years of experience in development
    • Demonstrated excellence in organizational and communication skills

    Summer on the Hill (SOH)

    Summer on the Hill’s mission is to enrich the education of promising, low-income public school students from the Bronx, Harlem, Inwood and Washington Heights, to prepare them for selective schools and colleges, and to offer guidance to their families.

    SOH is a year-round, supplemental enrichment program that has served more than 1,700 promising students since 1994 and has placed over 300 students in over 125 colleges and universities. SOH:

    Programs

    Grade 3-8 Program students attend public school while participating in this six-year program of educational enrichment and school placement guidance. Each year, over 200 3rd- 8th graders attend the program, which consists of a five-week, full-day Summer Program, daily, from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, and a Mandatory Academic-Year Program on 18 Saturdays, 8:30 am - 2:15 pm. SOHalso offers individual guidance on school choices for all families, especially 8th graders preparing for high school.

    SOH’s High School Program is open to all Grade 3 - 8 program alumni. Each year, 40+ high school students participate in: ACT preparation classes in math and English taught by experienced instructors, individual college counseling, day and overnight visits to colleges in the northeast, college admissions and financial aid workshops for students and families, and a HS Mentor Fellowship Program that brings together SOH high school students with young NYC professionals for discussions on public speaking, college and careers.

    Two-thirds of SOH students are the first in their families to be headed for college, and over 90% of SOH students represent minority groups: 32% of students are Latino/Hispanic, 24% are African or Caribbean American, 21% are Asian-American, 8% are white, and 15% are multiracial.
