About the National PREA Resource Center Team
The National PREA Resource Center (PRC) is a project of Impact Justice operated via a cooperative agreement with the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) within the Office of Justice Programs (OJP) at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). The PRC serves as the national source for training and technical assistance to assist adult prisons and jails, juvenile facilities, lockups, community confinement, and tribal confinement facilities in their ongoing work to eliminate sexual abuse by increasing their capacity for prevention, detection, monitoring, and responses to incidents, and to provide services to victims and their families. We also support the Justice Department in training, certifying, providing continuing education, and maintaining the systems and instruments for auditors who determine facilities’ compliance with PREA.
Who You Are
You are someone eager to own a project from beginning to end; you are attendant to detail and have the capability of keeping track of several ongoing projects with various timelines, tasks and details. You have experience supporting program activities and with administrative, logistical and substantive tasks.
You have a customer-service orientation, naturally empathize with colleagues to understand and anticipate needs in order to minimize frustration, and don’t tend to get impatient or flustered easily. Naturally, you won’t have an answer to every question you are asked, but you enjoy finding the answer; you are a person who wants to find new solutions to new problems. You are excited to engage with various stakeholders and collaborators - including our partners at the Department of Justice, corrections professionals, advocates, our dedicated contractors and consultants, and the PREA auditor community.
That said, we know there are great candidates who may not think they fit into what we’ve described above or who have essential skills we haven’t mentioned. If that is you, don’t hesitate to apply and tell us about yourself! And if you are someone with a family member who is or has been incarcerated, or if you have other direct experience with the criminal or juvenile legal systems, we will be particularly excited to hear from you.
What You Will Do
The anticipated start date for this position is October 2024. You will be a valued member of the PRC and report to the Senior Program Manager of Training within the PRC’s Training and Support team; however, you will work collaboratively with other teams and will likely receive guidance from and/or collaborate with other program directors, the PRC director, PRC partners, and other staff members for project-specific tasks. You will coordinate the day-to-day operations of the PRC’s PREA Academy, which is a suite of multi-month online courses designed to train and guide learners as they understand and implement various components of the PREA Standards. These courses may include eLearning coursework, both asynchronous and synchronous, readings and assignments, small group discussions, presentations by subject matter experts, and coaching. They encompass both beginner and advanced training topics. You will also contribute to other aspects of the Training and Support portfolio.
