    The Democratic Socialists of America is a member-run socialist organization with more than 280 groups nationwide engaged in movement-building, public education, direct action, advocacy, and electoral politics. Our immediate goal is to build working-class power against the capitalist class while advancing transformative reforms like a Green New Deal, supporting a robust labor movement, electing socialists to office, and shifting the public framing around capitalism and democratic socialism. DSA is a “big tent,” multi-tendency organization that welcomes everyone committed to democracy and socialism.

    Reporting to the Finance Director, the Chapter Project Coordinator works extensively to develop and strengthen DSA and YDSA chapters through the chapter pipeline process, dues share program, matching funds, and more. It requires a high level of project coordination skills, including experience with tech tools and database work. This is a primarily project-oriented position that requires being a self-starter with strong attention to detail. 

    Responsibilities

    Programming and Administration

    • Chapter Pipeline
      • Oversee the DSA and YDSA chapter pipelines in collaboration with staff, committees, leadership, and volunteers.
      • Serve as the initial contact for new DSA and YDSA chapter organizing efforts.
      • Process chapter applications and assist with drafting bylaws.
      • Provide administrative support for chapter-related inquiries, including incorporation and financial matters.
      • Coordinate jurisdiction changes, mergers, and dissolutions and Identify and execute dechartering of groups as needed.
    • Dues Share Program
      • Onboard chapters to the dues share program and coordinate the dues share database and monitor compliance.
      • Coordinate with the Finance Department for quarterly disbursements.
    • Matching Funds Program
      • Administer the Matching Funds process and disbursements.
      • Support the program committee with administrative tasks.
    • Grants Management
      • Assist in developing, implementing, and administering grant programs for staff departments and national committees.

    Data Maintenance and Tracking

    • Chapter Databases
      • Maintain DSA and YDSA chapter databases, including master lists, membership lists, and jurisdictions.
      • Coordinate with DSA and YDSA groups and the Organizing Departments for up-to-date chapter information.
      • Oversee the chapter incorporation database and solicit necessary documentation.
    • Membership Database
      • Assist with membership database work as needed, including data cleanup and pulling lists and reports.
      • Develop and implement data standardization, hygiene protocols, and new tracking methods.

    Compliance

    • In coordination with the Compliance Officer, assist chapters with compliance questions related to incorporation, mergers, or dissolutions.

    Training and Resource Development

    • Conduct calls, trainings, and office hours for Organizing Committees (OCs), pre-OCs, and chapters on various topics such as chapter pipeline navigation and best practices.
    • Collaborate with other departments to develop new resources and trainings.

    Administration and General Duties

    • Work with other staff departments to develop and implement new policies and procedures.
    • Perform additional duties as required based on organizational needs.

    Qualifications

    • Experience with Google Suite and Airtable.
    • Experience with ActionKit or other CRMs.
    • Self-starter that can efficiently manage multiple projects at once, use limited resources effectively, and work with a team.
    • Strong attention to detail, even when doing tasks repeatedly or when dealing with a large data set.
    • Quickly spots potential process improvements and trouble areas in systems.
    • Handles high pressure situations with positive attitude, tact and professionalism.
    • Exceptional listening, interpersonal, and general communication skills.
    • A strong relationship-builder and team player.
    • Commitment to democratic socialist, feminist, anti-racist, anti-heterosexist and pro-worker action and identify as a socialist and be grounded in democratic socialist politics; general agreement with the positions and perspectives of DSA.

    Preferred

    • Experience in organizing and/or working on campaigns.

    Reports to: Finance Director

    Work Schedule: Full-time. Work hours will fluctuate according to project or campaign needs and DSA member availability.

    Salary: $56,000, non-exempt

    This is a union position covered by a collective bargaining agreement with the Washington-Baltimore News Guild.
