    The Organization

    Oasis Legal Services is a non-profit legal services organization with offices in Berkeley and Fresno, California. We proudly provide quality legal immigration services to under-represented low-income groups with a focus on LGBTQ+ communities. Founded in May 2017, Oasis is now one of the country's largest providers of immigration services to the LGBTQ+ community and serves over 800 clients a year. We specialize in affirmative asylum cases as well as VAWA, lawful permanent residency, citizenship, and family petition applications. In addition to direct representation, we provide case management and other social services to at-risk clients and partner with community-based organizations from around the nation on education and advocacy projects that benefit the LGBTQ+ immigrant community.

    The Position

    Oasis Legal Services is seeking a full time Receptionist to provide customer service and administrative support to our clients and team. The ideal candidate has excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, and works well in a fast-paced collaborative environment. 

    Duties will include but are not limited to:

    • Answer, screen, and forward any incoming phone calls, emails, and texts, including answering client questions and inquiries from the public
    • Schedule initial client consultations (over the phone and in person)
    • Greet clients when they arrive to the office and manage client waiting room
    • Notify clients of upcoming appointments and maintain calendars
    • Check, sort, and distribute mail
    • Manage client payments and payment plans, including collecting payments via phone
    • Perform other clerical & office administration duties such as data entry, filing, copying, scanning, mailing, and faxing

    Qualifications

    • Fluency (written and spoken) in Spanish required
    • Fluency (written and spoken) in Portuguese a plus, but not required
    • Excellent time-management, priority-setting, and organizational skills
    • Skilled and detail-oriented multitasker who enjoys customer service
    • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
    • Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of groups, including houseless people, non-English speakers, people with mental disabilities, trauma survivors, people in crisis and experiencing domestic violence, students, service providers, and community partners
    • Ability to work a minimum of four-days-a-week in downtown Berkeley office
    • Work authorization in the United States

    A demonstrated commitment to the LGBTQIA+ and/or immigrant community, experience providing legal support services, and familiarity in working with people in crisis are all pluses but not requirements.

    Benefícios

    This is a full time non-exempt position. Compensation is $30.00 - $32.00 per hour depending on experience for 35 hours per week, including paid breaks. Hybrid work environment.
