    Flying Cloud Institute (FCI) seeks a dedicated and inspiring educator to lead its science and art programs in community schools and during outside-of-school time. FCI is a dynamic, small nonprofit committed to inspiring the natural curiosity of children through real world science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) investigations that inspire creativity.

    The Education Coordinator will teach, coordinate, and design STEM residencies in K-8 classrooms for schools throughout the Berkshires. This position also leads vacation camp programs, after school workshops, Family STEAM challenge events, and works with the FCI team to appropriately budget, plan, and execute programs. They will work in partnership with local school districts, artists, teachers, STEM professionals, and nonprofit organizations to deliver meaningful experiences to youth. Most duties occur on weekdays with very occasional weekend or evening programs.

    • Work with the Executive Director (ED) to set a strategic course for FCI’s school programs, including classroom residencies and after-school programs;
    • Develop, teach, and evaluate STE curriculum in the form of classroom residencies in K-8 classrooms;
    • Coordinate and oversee 5-7 weeks of S•M•Art Summer science and art explorations annually;
    • Coordinate and oversee 1-2 weeks of vacation programs in April and February;
    • Help hire, train, and support the work of teaching artists and STEM professionals in classroom residencies, PD, STEAM camps, and after school programs. Cultivate and maintain a network of youth assistants/ mentors;
    • Teach after school enrichment programs in science, engineering, art, and technology;
    • Organize community events to include families and our larger community in STEAM explorations, such as the annual STEAM Challenge Night;
    • Evaluate and analyze the efficacy of S•M•Art Studio programs to measure impact, demonstrate progress, and provide reports to the ED, the board of directors, and funders;
    • Serve as a role model to other FCI educators, demonstrating program design and delivery strategies that exemplify FCI’s learning philosophy
    • Work with the ED and the Young Women in Science Director to communicate and coordinate annual program budgets, calendars, and staffing needs;
    • Work with the ED and the Development Manager to seek sources of funding through grants, individual gifts, and program fees to meet revenue goals for the S•M•Art Studio program;
    • Work with the Office Manager to administer tuition-based program registrations and invoicing;
    • Oversee the annual calendar for FCI’s vacation programs, school residencies, PD, and community STEAM experiences.
    • Build relationships with other organizations and participate in STEM networks and art collaborations, including representing FCI at community meetings;
    • Build and maintain positive relations with schools, administrators, teachers, families, funders, teaching artists, and volunteers.

    • Ideally a Masters in teaching or similar education degree. Minimum requirement is a current or in-progress Bachelor or Masters degree in a STEM discipline, education, and/ or the arts
    • Minimum of 2 years relevant experience and a passion for K-12 STEAM education
    • Demonstrated experience working with children in classroom and/ or out-of-school time settings
    • Ability to exercise cultural competence and best practices in inclusion and equity
    • Child and adult First Aid and CPR certification (training provided upon hire as needed)
    • Must be physically able to work outside all day on occasion and lift and move up to 50 lbs.
    • Must have reliable transportation, a clean driving record, and have had a driver’s license for a minimum of three consecutive years.
    • Must be able to successfully pass a CORI and SORI background check

Employment also includes 10 paid holidays, paid sick time, and up to 120 hours of paid vacation leave. FCI is a qualified employer under the PSLF federal student loan forgiveness plan.
