    This position is a part of the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Team, which works to ensure holistic treatment of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) initiatives across the organization and supports the Association through programs, activities, and leadership development.

    About the Position

    The Assistant Director, Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Initiatives provides leadership for a portfolio of educational programs, member engagement, and Association initiatives focused on the inclusion, retention, and support of mid-level and aspiring senior-level roles in higher education. The Assistant Director also provides coordinating oversight and structure for NASPA’s affinity pathway programs. Successful execution of this role will create increased access for and the development of highly engaged leaders with a focus on inclusion, equity, and justice in support of NASPA goals.

    Essential Responsibilities

    • Learning and event management support
      • Guide cross-functional teams responsible for program execution, budgeting, marketing, customer service, logistical support, and sponsorship solicitation
      • Serve on the NASPA Racial Equity and Social Change Conference Core Team
      • Lead planning and execution for the Institute for New Assistant Vice Presidents and Mid-Level Administrators Conference
      • Provide coordinative oversight for Careers in Student Affairs Month programming, in collaboration with Director of Virtual Learning, The Placement Exchange, and constituent groups
      • Affinity and Professional Pathways Institutes: yearly or every other year, serve as program lead for an affinity pathway program, as determined by JEDI Team
    • Volunteer engagement and management
      • Provide administrative and strategic support to the New Professionals and Graduate Students Steering Committee and Mid-Level Administrators Steering Committee
      • Support steering committee-led programming and initiatives
    • Support NASPA’s justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives
      • Collaborate with other members of the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion team to advance equity, justice, and inclusion for the NASPA membership
    • Additional Responsibilities
      • Support Annual Conference planning and execution
      • Review, edit, and post volunteer-written blog entries to the NASPA website
      • Assists with all-team projects and participates actively in staff meetings and projects
      • Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned to support the association

    Reports To

    Assistant Vice President, Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

    Supervises: NASPA Graduate Summer Intern

    Qualifications

    • At least three years of full-time work experience including at least two years of program management experience is required; experience working in a professional association, higher education, or similar professional setting is preferred.
    • A master’s degree is required, preferably in adult learning, higher education administration, leadership development or related field.
    • Knowledge of current issues related to higher education and student affairs administration is required.
    • Superior project management skills including the ability to manage many projects simultaneously is required.
    • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to establish priorities, manage competing demands, and meet deadlines are required.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
    • Superior customer service skills are required.
    • Proactive, highly-motivated, and collaborative nature required.
    • Experience engaging professionally with executives and external partners is preferred.
    • Excellent ability to establish, build, and maintain interpersonal relationships is required.
    • Data management experience, i.e., ability to collect, analyze, and synthesize data to develop action plans is preferred.
    • Ability to take initiative, use sound judgment, resolve problems diplomatically and discreetly, and work effectively, independently, and cooperatively with all levels of staff and constituents.
    • Capacity to build relationships inside and outside of the organization with stakeholders, members, and colleagues.
    • Proficiency in the use of computers and application software in a networked environment and the ability to learn and utilize new technology tools as they emerge are required.

    Employment Status:

    Full-time Exempt: Exempt employees by definition are exempt from overtime compensation requirements of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, and are required to work as the job demands on a no time limit basis.

    Salary Range

    The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $69,000.

    Office Location/Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

    This position may be based anywhere in the contiguous 48 states.

    It is the employee’s responsibility to provide reliable internet capabilities for any work location outside of the Washington, D.C. office.

    Please note, the NASPA Washington, D.C. Office is in mostly-open status at this time. The status of the office is subject to change at any time.

    Travel

    Moderate overnight travel to represent NASPA at events, on college and university campuses, and in-person meetings is an essential function of this position. Locations vary and can include sites outside of taxi service from major airports. As a result, the position is required to have the ability to travel independently, including air travel, navigating ground transportation, and occasionally driving a rental car.

    Physical Requirements

    • This position is primarily office-based with primary work on a computer, including phone, email, and video conferencing.
    • Responsibilities occasionally may require an adjusted work schedule, overtime, and evening/weekend hours in order to meet deadlines and support events and programs.
    • This position will be required to routinely pack and unpack program materials for shipment, which will require pulling, pushing, lifting, and moving boxes weighing up to 50 pounds.
    • This position will be required to coordinate on-site event execution, which may include moving furniture and other items, navigating event spaces, and communicating verbally with venue staff.

    Additional COVID-19 Information

    Vaccination is not a requirement for employment. However, all employees are strongly encouraged to follow the CDC guidance on vaccination, including becoming fully-vaccinated and staying up-to-date as eligible. All employees may flex their schedules for time taken to receive and recover from COVID-19 vaccinations.

    In certain circumstances, NASPA may require testing for all staff regardless of vaccination status.

    Masks must be worn per local, state, tribal, and federal guidance, including the CDC, with the most stringent level of guidance followed. Regardless of guidance, all employees must have masks available should masking be requested by other employees, members, or external constituents. In certain settings, NASPA may require or strongly recommend that employees wear masks.
