Formed in November 2012 as a unified front for the pro-democracy movement in Syria, the Syrian National Coalition (SNC) includes representatives from throughout Syria as well as independent activists, and its diversity reflects Syria's mosaic of religious and ethnic backgrounds. The United States has recognized the Syrian National Coalition as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people, as have over 120 other countries. It is the largest political representative of the moderate opposition supporting the Syrian revolution and working to establish peace, freedom, and democracy for all Syrians.
