Miami Homeschool Co-op

We are a group of parents who desire an intentionally small kindergarten and 1st grade class. With roots in progressive education and constructivism, we are a forward-thinking community of diverse student and adult learners with a shared commitment to equity, social justice, and sustainability. 

Our homeschooling pod is the initial phase of our community moving towards our Co-op School. We believe beginning with the right teacher is pivotal and they would be our most precious resource! Starting a school from scratch will be one of the most exciting, challenging and rewarding things we've ever done. We want to add someone to the team that We empower and trust to bring their passion, individual talents, and creativity to our team. Someone who draws inspiration from John Dewey, Paulo Freire, Erika Huggins, Sir Ken Robbinson and so many other pioneers in education. 

We refer to teachers as learning guides as they are curators of experiences, coaches who help students observe and reflect, facilitators who develop responsibility and agency, advocates who celebrate and challenge each student, and team players who engage with other guides, students, families, and external partners. Above all else, our learning guides are professional learners.

We'd love to know more about you, but we also want to share a little about us: 

• Favorite Adjectives: engaging, curious, reflective, diverse, inclusive, collaborative, creative, joy, agency and focused.
• Professional Development Focus: positive teacher language, differentiation, classroom and school culture, using multiple sources of data to inform instruction, teacher collaboration, creating a learning community.
• Soapbox Issues: teachers as professionals, curriculum v. curricular materials, punctuality, preventative vs punitive, Bloom Taxonomy. 
• Intrinsic or Extrinsic Motivation: Both. But over the long-term we'll take intrinsic 9 out of 10 times.
