Bluestockings Cooperative is a worker-owned social enterprise business that has been located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan for twenty-two years. It uses profits from its bookstore and café as well as its events space to support its operations as an activist center providing community meeting space, resource referrals, and harm reduction supplies and trainings. It has a vision for an equitable and free society built on non-hierarchical cooperation and a mission to empower all people to challenge oppression and participate in creating new social relationships. In pursuit of this mission, it has three main goals: 1) to provide access to literature about oppression and to share the stories of oppressed people; 2) to maintain a community space for education and reflection; and 3) to build connections, knowledge and skills among organizations and individuals.
