About Lumina Initiative:  

Lumina Initiative is a dynamic nonprofit organization dedicated to amplifying the diverse voices and  narratives within the LGBTQ+ community through impactful storytelling. In response to a challenging political landscape, we are committed to championing authentic and intersectional LGBTQ+ stories, challenging preconceived notions, and inspiring a more compassionate world.  

Role Overview:  

As a founding Board Member of Lumina Initiative, you will play a pivotal role in guiding the organization's strategic direction, actively engaging in both governance and operational tasks. This is a working board, where members contribute their expertise, networks, and passion to drive the organization's mission forward.  

Responsibilities:  

• Governance: Provide strategic oversight and direction, ensuring alignment with the organization's mission and values. Participate in board meetings held virtually every other month, contributing insights and decision-making.
• Operational Support: Actively engage in the operations of Lumina Initiative, working with Founding Staff directly to define and execute specific projects that leverage your skills and experience to further our fundraising, legal or financial paperwork and compliance, and project-specific goals.
• Advocacy and Networking: Introduce Lumina to your networks, advocating for our mission and programs. Identify potential funding opportunities, partnerships, and avenues for collaboration to further our impact.  

Qualifications:  

• Passion for LGBTQ+ rights and representation.
• Experience in philanthropy, media production, fundraising, or related fields.
• Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and ethical practices.
• Strong communication and networking skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
• Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.  

Time Commitment:  

• Attend 60-90 minute virtual board meetings every other month.
• Engage in projects and networking opportunities as needed, with flexibility based on individual availability and expertise.
