Volunteer | Summer Learning Academy

3PointFoundation provides unique, free, sports-based project-based learning programs to under-served, low-income, middle-school youth in Boston to enhance social-emotional development through sports. Our goal is to develop a life-long commitment to wellness, health and fitness and to teach the life lessons through sports that lead to success in school, the community and a global society. We are an official CAB (Character, Academics, Basketball) Summer Learning Academy.

This is a great opportunity to learn and serve in a partnership with a college/university and 3PointFoundation that will promote youth empowerment, academic skills and critical thinking in an in-school/after-school program. We provide training for all new volunteers and you do not need to have any prior experience in either a classroom or with basketball.

Responsibilities:

• Assist students and staff in the classroom by helping to foster their social and emotional growth 
• Support the lead instructor in the classroom and the basketball court
• Facilitate passing out snacks at the beginning of each session
• Facilitate bathroom breaks for students when needed
• Make sure all students are safe and enjoying themselves
• Facilitate small groups of students
• Team building skills
• Have fun and make a difference with the students
• Complete weekly reflections about their experience with 3Point

Schedule:

Will have the option to work in multiple locations: 

• UMass Boston (100 Morrissey Blvd,Dorchester MA)
• The Fessenden School (250 Waltham St. West Newton MA)
