    Volunteer Court Monitor - Yakima County

    Tasks/Responsibilities: Complete court monitoring training (provided by MADD Staff Court Monitor), attend assigned DUI court hearings and become familiar with courtroom procedure, collect information on case(s), and submit paperwork in a timely manner to your Staff Court Monitoring Specialist.

    The purpose of the Court Monitoring Program is to observe the court system and collect information on misdemeanor DUI cases. This is an excellent opportunity to learn and observe the court systems while significantly contributing to your community.

    Volunteering with MADD is not just a meaningful contribution to our community but may also be a commendable addition to a resume. It may also be a requisite or a valuable enrichment for various degree pathways and programs.

    Each year, more than 1.4 MILLION arrests are made for the crime of drunk driving. What happens after those arrests depends on the criminal justice system. MADD's Court Monitoring program supports our Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving and its goal to end the 100% preventable crime of drunk driving.

    By observing and reporting the outcomes of our criminal justice system, we:

    * Promote public interest in the judicial system and awareness of the outcomes of criminal cases;

    * Compile information on how alcohol and/or drug impaired driving cases are resolved; and

    * Record relevant data to confirm accuracy, consistency, and areas for improvement.

    MADD's Court Monitoring program follows cases throughout the criminal court process until the case is adjudicated. The data recorded is analyzed at the local, state, and national levels, enabling MADD to highlight effective systems and spotlight areas of improvement within the criminal justice process.
