The EMC (Educator Mentor Corps) is a new volunteer initiative of the Wheelock College Aspire Institute that mobilizes skilled, experienced educators to help support, inspire and retain those entering the field of urban education. The goals of the EMC mentors are: • To enhance the professional skills of these new teachers • To improve new teacher retention in the urban schools • To promote quality community service in support of education. Now in its second year, the EMC is looking for additional volunteer teacher mentors. Once selected, mentors are paired with second and third year teachers in Boston, in collaboration with the Boston Teacher Residency program and the Boston Public Schools. Mentors also become part of a professional learning community with access to free college and continuing education courses, and other campus benefits.
