AARP Legal Counsel for the Elderly (LCE) champions the rights of seniors by providing free legal services to low-income DC residents age 60 and older. Attorneys handle cases addressing consumer fraud and financial abuse, landlord/tenant issues, and public benefits. LCE also operates the D.C. Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program (DCLTCOP) which advocates for residents of nursing homes, assisted living facilities, community residence facilities, and residents in their private homes receiving long-term care. In addition to providing direct services, the unit attorneys make an impact through systemic and policy advocacy, supported by LCE’s attorney for systemic reform who oversees numerous systemic pro bono projects.
