The Housing Industry Foundation's (HIF) mission is to help individuals and families remain in or return to stable housing and to assist with special housing projects or renovations in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties.

    Emergency Housing Fund Program

HIF's emergency housing assistance grants work to help prevent residents of San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties from becoming homeless. Rather than duplicate existing services, we build upon what is already being done in the community. HIF partners with emergency services agencies that provide case management for clients in need of our one-time, financial bridge emergency housing grants of up to $2,500, assisting individuals and families seeking to avoid homelessness or to transition away from unsuitable living conditions. These grants may be used for past-due or current-due rent, a security deposit, or utilities. The situation must be due to a recent unforeseen emergency and the clients must demonstrate their ability to meet future expenses after the grant is awarded.

    Shelter Renovation Program

HHIF supports non-profit agencies in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties that provide permanent, transitional and temporary housing and safe environments for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Leveraging our vast network and resources within the multifamily industry, HIF completes small and large-scale renovations at no cost to our grantees, allowing these organizations to focus their budgets on the clients and communities they serve.

Thanks to the collaboration and support from our industry partners, vendors and board members, HIF is able to complete high quality renovations and facilities improvements significantly impacting our grantee’s bottom line and service capacity. Through the Renovation Program, HIF has helped facilities serving homeless veterans, men and women in recovery, victims of domestic violence, seniors, foster youth and families.

    Affordable Housing Initative

HIF works with an extensive network of landlords and properties to connect qualified applicants to affordable housing, ideally where they work. Our program focuses on educational professionals, non-profit workers and other community and public workers.
