Miaan Group

Miaan Group was founded in 2019 to provide legal and technical expertise, research, and advocacy support to organizations working on human rights in Iran and the wider MENA region. Miaan’s mission is to raise the capacity of civil society to promote human rights, good governance, and social justice through advocacy and technology.

The team is composed of individuals with years of experience in research, advocacy, and journalism who have developed deep subject matter expertise in internet freedom and security, the rights of marginalized groups (i.e., ethnic and religious minorities, women, children, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ people), and human rights law and policy. Building on this foundation of expertise, Miaan specializes in working with local networks and diaspora-based human rights defenders to develop advocacy efforts, provide capacity building and mentoring, and conduct digital security audits and training.

Miaan is dedicated to building a legal and policy framework that best promotes human rights in Iran. As such, Miaan has invested in developing expertise on international bodies, human rights best practices, and model legal instruments that can be used to empower both international and local actors in documentation, advocacy, digital hygiene and more.
