    Cambodian Association of Illinois HISTORYThe Cambodian Association of Illinois (CAI) is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit,comprehensive social service organization founded in 1976 by a groupof Cambodian refugee volunteers who responded to the needs ofCambodians who were resettling in Chicago after fleeing the tyranny,brutality and torture of the Khmer Rouge genocide in which two million Cambodians perished. CAI services some 5,000 Cambodians in Illinois---over 3,000 in Chicago---all of whom are Cambodian refugees or thechildren of refugees who escaped the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge'sand Cambodian Killing Fields. The Cambodian Association of Illinoisis the only non-profit organization in the Chicago metropolitan area thatprovides bilingual programming to address the interrelated social andeconomic needs of our local Cambodian American population. MISSIONThe Cambodian Association of Illinois serves and enables refugees and immigrants from Cambodia residing in Illinois---especially those in metropolitan Chicago---to become self-sufficient, productive participants in American society while preserving and celebrating their cultural heritage and community. SERVICESCAI provides a variety of social services to the Cambodian-American and neighborhood communities, including Senior Home Care, ESL and Job Training for Adults, Holistic Health Services, Youth Programs for all ages, and Cambodian Arts and Culture Classes.     NATIONAL CAMBODIAN HERITAGE MUSEUM & KILLING FIELDS MEMORIAL

    Established in 2004, the Museum and Memorial provide exhibitions and resources for individuals and groups to learn about Cambodian history and culture, as well as a peaceful site for survivors to unite and heal.
