The Salvation Army Female Emergency Shelter (SAFES) is a low barrier shelter for women experiencing homelessness in Downtown Portland. We strive to provide opportunities for women to achieve self-sufficiency through our services and supports. We recognize and honor everyone's basic human and economic rights. We believe these rights include shelter, food, safety, dignity, respect and community. Together with staff, volunteers and residents, we are creating a community where those who were previously defined as "chronically homeless" are becoming self-sufficient and obtaining permanent housing.
