The mission of ACTS Thrift Store is recycling and selling quality donated clothing,
furniture and other usable goods to generate funds to support programs
benefiting at-risk youth, disadvantaged families and the homeless in Pasadena
and the Foothill Communities. The 12,000-square-foot store includes 10,000
square feet of retail space and a receiving and processing area.
ACTS Thrift Store provides financial support for programs that serve poor and
disadvantaged families, children and the homeless in Pasadena and the Foothill
Communities. These programs are administered by Lake Avenue Community
Foundation (www.lakeavefoundation.org), a church outreach ministry founded in
2001 to bless neighborhoods with a high density of students with limited English
proficiency.
Nearly two-thirds of residents in these areas live below the federal poverty level.
More than 14,000 neighborhood children are eligible for free or discounted
school lunches. Only about one-third of high school juniors in the district typically
pass the California exit exam. About half the students in the neighborhood drop
out, leaving them in a workplace already filled with the working poor.
The youth ministry administered by Lake Avenue Community Foundation provides
a nurturing environment for kids to thrive and excel. This ministry helps to
bring about transformational change in the lives of neighborhood students and
their families through academic, social, spiritual and emotional support.
Devoted volunteer tutors and mentors help kids through reading literacy, technology
training, college prep and life-skills training. The foundation also offers
family counseling, support groups, parenting classes and nutrition education.
Its homeless outreach focuses on breaking the cycle of poverty and hopelessness,
while encouraging and equipping men and women in developing intimate
relationships with God, the Church and their families.
