    ATC is the only organization solely focused on the protection and management of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. ATC works with federal and state agency partners and with 31 volunteer A.T.- maintaining clubs to manage the 2,185 mile footpath through the Appalachian Mountains. ATC was founded in 1925 by volunteers who led the way in constructing and marking the footpath. Today, volunteers continue to be the heartbeat of the Trail, maintaining, marking and participating in the management of the Trail and the protected lands surrounding it. The Appalachian Trail is truly both a natural and national treasure.
