The Forest Global Earth Observatory
Network (ForestGEO), also known as the Center for Tropical Forest Science
(CTFS), is an international network of scientists and forest research sites
committed to the study of forest dynamics and global change. We conduct
research and build scientific capacity through training, grants, and managing partnerships
with (inter)national universities and organizations. Since 1980, the network
has grown into a collaboration of over 60 forest research sites and 85 partner
organizations.The Smithsonian Institution,
which is a global organization of 19 museums and galleries, the National
Zoological Park, and nine research centers, works across art, history,
culture, science, and education in more than 130 countries. ForestGEO is part of the Smithsonian Tropical
Research Institute (STRI) in Panama, with offices in Washington, DC. We work
with several Smithsonian partners, including the National Museum of Natural
History, the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute, and the Smithsonian
Environmental Research Center.
