The Hillside Club is a community-based membership organization supporting the arts and culture. Founded in 1898, it is Berkeley’s oldest club and has a rich history of architectural, civic, and cultural achievements.
The Club is open to the public, serving Berkeley as a venue for performing arts, lectures, and cultural programs in its historic meeting hall at 2286 Cedar Street, designated a City of Berkeley Landmark in 2004.
In 2019, the Club hosted 84 arts & culture events with a total estimated attendance of between 6,805 - 10,505 individuals for the year. Longstanding performing arts organizations, including Pocket Opera, Left Coast Ensemble, and Berkeley Chamber Opera, rely on our stage and the hall's excellent acoustics for their season's programming. Local lecture series promoters including KPFA Presents and Berkeley Arts & Letters host their regular author talks in our hall, which can seat up to 200 attendees. Our own Hillside Club Concert Series, now in its 15th year, hosts live performances by local jazz and chamber musicians from the California Jazz Conservatory, the San Francisco Symphony, and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, among other organizations.
