Minmahaw Higher Education Program (MHEP) is a non-profit education organization. It operates in Mae Sot, on the Thai-Burma border, to educate young people from Burma with disadvantaged backgrounds. By providing an education which incorporates critical thinking and organizational skills, MHEP prepares students to take a high school equivalency exam so they can attain scholarships and gain entry to university: 50% of our alumni are now studying international degree courses. Although this is the direct aim of the program, the fundamental purpose is to promote higher education and support the new generation to play an active role in shaping the future of democracy inside and outside Burma.
