The Memphis Teaching Fellows work in partnership with Memphis City Schools to recruit recent college graduates and mid-career professionals to teach throughout the city. Participants, known as Fellows, undergo a rigorous selection process and train in an intensive pre-service summer institute before entering the classroom and participating in licensure coursework called the Teaching for Results Seminars (TfR). Designed by The New Teacher Project (TNTP), these seminars prepare new teachers to raise student achievement in high-need schools by focusing on strong content knowledge and the use of student assessments to set goals, inform instruction, and measure progress so all students meet or exceed grade-level standards.
