AWARE is based at a shelter for rescued animals in Guatemala’s Central Highlands. Our main focus these days is running spay-and-neuter clinics and education for the community. We have an on-site clinic for our monthly spay/neuter days staffed by volunteer vets. Whenever possible we also organise spay/neuter days in local villages.Within the limits of our capabilities (space, funding, staff) we rescue and rehabilitate abandoned, abused, and injured domestic animals.
We believe that, as well as being a direct benefit to the animals, enabling people to understand their pets and improve the way they look after them will bring about very positive social and cultural improvements for Guatemalan society in general.
